Psalm 147:1 (NASB) says, “Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant and praise is becoming.”
Praise fits you. It’s what you were designed for. When you’re caught up in praising God, you’re right in the centre of what you were made to do. But just as there are things you are designed for, there are also things you are not designed for.
I pulled out a car manual the other day. The team that designed the car knows exactly what it’s built for and what it isn’t. One car we bought for our kids was a Toyota Yaris, and do you know what its towing capacity is? Zero. You’re not even allowed to tow with it in America. Why? Because it’s not designed for that. If you try to hook up a trailer, the suspension will fail, the brakes will give way, and the whole thing will break down.
That’s exactly how it is with us. We were never designed to tow the trailer of worry, stress, or anxiety, yet how often do we insist on hooking up cares and dragging them through life?
1 Peter 5:7 (NMB) says, “Cast all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” That doesn’t mean ignoring your problems or pretending they don’t matter. It means transferring the weight onto the One who can carry it.
Some things we lug around don’t even belong to us. Other people’s cares. Tomorrow’s problems Jesus said we shouldn’t worry about. Things that cannot be changed by worrying at all. Yet we overload ourselves and wonder why life feels heavy and broken.
Your towing capacity for cares is zero. God never built you to carry them.
This is where the great exchange comes in. Jesus said in Matthew 11, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you… for My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” When you cast your cares onto Him, a transfer takes place. He takes your heavy load—your worries and anxieties, your past and your sin—and in exchange He gives you rest, forgiveness, and peace. He takes what you cannot carry, and He gives you what only He can provide. That’s the deal. That’s the invitation.
Philippians 4 says, “Be anxious for nothing… but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” You were not designed to live weighed down. God designed you to live free, walking in step with Him, praising Him, and letting Him carry what you can’t.
Check the manual and stop trying to tow what you were never built to carry. Cast your cares on Him, for He cares for you.
