Breakthrough Mums answer:

What’s a lesson you’ve learnt from Mary?”

Jasmine: Mary trusted God even when she didn't understand. She probably expected a normal life, but God completely changed that. She obeyed even when she didn't know the details.

Katie: Trusting God even when we don’t know the outcome (which I’m currently doing).

Christine: My answer is absolute obedience to what God asked. I see that in Mary’s response to the visitation from the angel (a visit that changed her life in a big way) but she continued to obey each step. God’s will meant more to her than her own plans or her own comfort.

Then when Jesus is grown and about to perform His first miracle, Mary’s response was teaching about obedience and telling the waiters, “Whatever He tells you to do, do it”. Such simple but powerful life-changing words.

To me, Mary represents obedience at all cost.

Sheridan: One thing I've learned from Mary is that our greatest role as mums isn't to control our children's path, but to point them towards God.

Mary trusted God before she understood everything, raised Jesus in the ways of the Lord, recognised when He needed to be about His Father's business, encouraged others to listen to Him ("Do whatever He tells you"), and faithfully stood by Him, even at the cross.

She also wasn't perfect. She lost track of twelve-year-old Jesus and didn't always understand what He was doing. I find that encouraging! Even imperfect mums can faithfully point their children to God and trust Him with the rest.
