One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned from Pastor Christine is that motherhood itself is ministry.
Pastor Christine often reminds us in Mums Group of Proverbs 22:6 (ESV), "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." It’s a beautiful reminder that the everyday things we do as mums have eternal significance.
It’s easy to feel like we’re not doing enough or feel guilty when we can’t serve at church the way we once did. But Pastor Christine reminds us that serving our families is ministry. Being present, praying over our children, being interested in their world, speaking life into them and finding everyday ways to talk about God are all ministry. These everyday moments are how we point our children towards Jesus.
Another lesson Pastor Christine has taught us is that spending time with God looks different in different seasons. When you’re in the thick of it with little ones, it might not look like sitting down for an uninterrupted hour with your Bible and a coffee. It might be five quiet minutes in the bathroom while a child hunts you down during hide and seek, listening to a sermon podcast while you drive, hugging a sick child while listening to worship music, or simply pausing for a few moments in His presence before the next thing on the schedule.
It may look different, but that doesn’t make it less meaningful. God meets us in every season, and sometimes our greatest ministry is right in our own home.
