Rapid Fire

Which areas of Breakthrough have you served in over the years?
There’s definitely been a few…

  • Superkid commander (back before it was called Superkids!)
  • Background vocalist
  • Worship leader
  • Youth leader
  • Maintenance
  • Finance administrator
  • Secretary
  • IT Department
  • Chauffeur for visiting ministries
  • Architect for 31 Michellan Court

Oh, and I have preached from time to time!

What foods do you dislike?
Mushrooms. Yoghurt. Coffee.

What's the strangest job you can imagine doing?
There are plenty of strange jobs I can’t imagine myself doing… but the strangest job I could actually imagine myself doing and enjoying is being the mascot at a Lakers game! I think that would be a whole lot of fun.

If you could have a conversation with any person, dead or alive, who would it be?
I’m going historical for this one. I’d love to sit down and have a chat with St Columba. (Do yourself a favour and read one of his biographies or historical novels!)

What did you learn leading the church through the recent building flood?
I had a front row seat to see how God can take the very thing the enemy meant for evil and turn it for our good!

What’s something about you that might surprise people?
I love listening to classical music and find it really relaxing. I’m currently listening to Schubert’s 3rd and 5th Symphonies by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Beach vacation or mountain getaway?
Beach!

What’s your greatest joy in being a pastor?
The privilege of being up close to people when they witness their breakthroughs!

What’s your favourite way to unwind after a long day?
Going into my workshop and building something or watching a good whodunnit murder mystery with my family.

If your life had a theme song right now, what would it be?
If we’re imagining the opening credits of a TV show of my life, the camera pans over me riding my motorbike through Mount Dandenong as Beethoven’s 5th Symphony plays epically. (And then I go and solve a murder in each episode as the “Pastor Consultant” to the Melbourne police.)

The Deep End

What is your greatest desire for Breakthrough in 2026?

That we fulfil our purpose and make Jesus happy!
Our purpose at Breakthrough is to:
1) Be disciples
2) Make disciples

That’s not just a catchphrase or marketing slogan, it’s what I think about all the time. My greatest desire is for our church to be full of disciples of Jesus who are going out into the world and discipling others.

From the Comms Team:
Pastor Peter preached a powerful series on what discipleship means back in 2021. This is a great insight into our pastor’s heart and all we do at Breakthrough. Check it out here!

If you could witness any moment in the Bible, what would it be, and why?

I am choosing Paul healing the lame man during his sermon.

Acts 14:8-10 (NIV) says, “In Lystra there sat a man who was lame. He had been that way from birth and had never walked. He listened to Paul as he was speaking. Paul looked directly at him, saw that he had faith to be healed and called out, “Stand up on your feet!” At that, the man jumped up and began to walk.”

I have spent a lot of time purposely envisioning and imagining this scene and how it played out. I would be very curious to see it in real life and discover how close it was to my imaginings… because one day I will interrupt my own sermon as I tell someone to get up and be healed!
