Welcome to Superkid Academy
Where ordinary kids do extraordinary things!

Superkid Academy runs every Sunday morning as part of our Sunday church and is designed for children from Pre-School through to Grade 6.

We'd love you to explore below to discover more about Superkids, or contact us if you have any questions.

And know that if you're a kid, we'd love to welcome you to Superkids soon!

If your children are regulars at Superkids, please fill in the WEEKLY CHECK-IN each Sunday.

An exciting transformation

Every Sunday morning our kids transform from normal, everyday children into secret agent Superkids!

When they enter their top-secret Superkid Facility (during the preaching segment of Sunday Church) they take part in a fun and energetic program custom designed just for their age.

The Superkids are led by their “Commanders” through exciting activities, energetic music, engaging lessons and top-secret missions to learn what it really means to be a Superkid, following Jesus in every part of their life, all the while having a blast with other kids just like them!

Fun for all ages
If you're anywhere from pre-school up to Grade 6, Superkids is for you!

Superkid Academy happens in two custom-built rooms (both on-site at Breakthrough). Each space is uniquely designed to be engaging and fun in its own way.

Hot Air Balloon (Pre-School - Grade 2)
This is a special space where our youngest cadets can learn in a bright, colourful and fun-filled environment and even be rewarded with play time on the indoor play equipment.

The Submarine (Grade 3-6)
Here our senior cadets can navigate the depths of the sea, look through the portholes at some of the deep-sea creatures (and maybe even a shipwreck) whilst they participate in engaging lessons teaching them all about being a Superkid.

We believe in kids

Our Superkid commanders are extremely passionate that Jesus is not just for the grown ups. We believe kids can know God personally and do great things for Jesus.

So, whilst our kids do enjoy a high-energy, fun-filled progam, Superkid Academy is about much more than just an exciting experience. We wholeheartedly desire to see our Superkids grow as followers of Jesus, who are taking His breakthrough love to their friends and family every day!

Questions & Answers

A safe place where children come together in an atmosphere of F.U.N. to grow as superkids that follow Jesus.

The "Superkid Academy" is a fun, space-themed childrens program. Our teachers are called "Commanders."

No. Superkids is a free service provided by Breakthrough Church that is staffed by volunteers.

We are currently set up to have children from approximately 2-3 years of age and older join in on SuperKids. Although it can depend on the individual child, and when they are ready to be separated from their parents and be in a group setting. We cannot facilitate one-on-one care, so we ask that the child is able to be in a group, follow instructions and does not require individual attention.

  1. Check-in my child using the Weekly Check-In Form .
  2. Have my child join me for the first part (singing) of the church service.
  3. When the preaching starts, there will be an announcement and my child will leave with the other Superkids.
  4. After the meeting, collect my child
  • Grow your child as a superkid who follows Jesus

We won’t act as a child-minding service that just keeps your child busy with pointless activities.

  • Teach in a creative and fun way

We will do everything we can to engage your child with teaching and activities for their age/level.

  • Not disturb you unless it is absolutely necessary in a creative and fun way

We want you to enjoy being focussed on today's message, so we will not contact you regarding your child unless it is absolutely necessary.

Our Commanders love to support you in the role of the parents/guardians in training up your children as followers of Jesus. Often they will supply you with material that explains the purpose of the lesson for that day. Please use that information to reinforce the message with your child. Maybe on your way home ask your child about what they have learnt. Engage with them in their process of becoming a disciple of Jesus. Also, please provide feedback to the Commanders – they love to hear stories of how the Superkids are growing.

Superkids is a safe place where children come together in an atmosphere of F.U.N. to grow as superkids that follow Jesus.

We say to all of our superkids that they are:

F = Followers of Jesus

U = United

N = Nice

The Junior Class (Balloon Room) will receive a small juice and snack to help them settle into their lesson. (Please speak to the Commander if you have any special requirements regarding allergies).

Parents are allowed to come into our SuperKids rooms because we understand that it can be tough for kids to come the first few weeks by themselves. We just ask that you work with the Superkid Commander to ensure that your presence doesn't disrupt the children or the lesson and that everyone works towards the goal of the child feeling confident to come by themselves.

If your child is unable to settle in to their Superkid class and doesn’t want to follow the lessons despite the best efforts of the commanders we will send you a message asking you to come to the Superkid room to collect your child.

Yes. You are welcome to come view the lesson at any time. However we ask that you do this as discretely as possible because we understand that once a child sees their parent, it is may be more difficult for them to connect to the lesson and they might wish to return to Church.

We will never force a child to stay in SuperKids and if they are distressed and want their parents, we will always contact you and ask you to come and collect them.

However, we also understand that younger children might just need to be distracted and become engaged in another activity, and don’t actually want their parents. We can work with you and discuss how you would like us to treat these situations.

No. SuperKids is a voluntary program we offer.

We understand that sometimes children prefer to stay with their parents in the meeting, and this is completely welcomed. We do ask however if you have particularly young children (ie: babies/young toddlers) who do not wish to go to SuperKids, that if they are creating distraction from the meeting/preaching (because we ALL have been in that time when you are desperately trying to keep a child quiet who just won’t be quiet), to please feel welcome to sit in our parents room that we have provided. That way you don’t have to worry about the child distracting others, but you are also able to listen to the message and take part in the Service.

Our first approach

  1. Positive encouragement.
  2. Rewards for good behaviour

But, if a child does not obey:

  1. Gentle reminder
  2. Time-Out
  3. Returned to their parent/guardian

Our first approach:

  1. We always provide a fun and engaging atmosphere using positive encouragement.
  2. We use rewards designed to promote good behaviour.

However, we recognise that there are times when every child decides to “test the boundaries” and break the rules. (Hey – Please don’t be embarrassed if your child needs to be disciplined. We are parents and we get how this happens. We’ve all had our moments when Charlie the Angel decides to become Charlie the Monster at the most embarrassing time.)

So, when a child does not obey:

  1. They are given a gentle reminder
  2. If they continue to disobey, they are given a Time-Out
    • The child will be seated by themselves (in the Superkid room, still under the observation of the Commander).
    • The child will not be allowed to participate in the activities.
    • The length of the Time-Out will be between 1 and 5 minutes determined by the seriousness of the disobedience as well as the response of the child to the discipline.

3. If the child (1) will not stay in the Time-Out seat, (2) continually disobeys, or (3) is violent or aggressive, they will be returned to their parent/guardian. You will be sent a message asking you to come to the Superkid room to collect your child.

There are different levels of leadership you can speak to, depending what the issue is.  Please see below:

1. For smaller issues, general questions, queries about that particular day (ie: your child has been sick and you would like to give specific instructions for that day), questions as to why your child was disciplined in the class: See The Commander in charge of your child’s class for that day

2. For more significant concerns, questions overall about the program, lessons or running of Superkids, concerns about child safety/OHS or dissatisfaction with the result of your discussion with the commander of your child’s class: See Our Superkids Leader – Katelyn Grant.
