I don’t know about you, but I find great comfort in a well-organised plan. You should see my holiday packing lists, colour-coded spreadsheets and all. They bring my heart so much joy.

I’ve also learnt the power of having a plan for my faith.

Sometimes I face a real challenge. Let’s use fear as an example. Fear can feel overwhelming, so that’s when I remember something I first heard Terri Savelle Foy say:

“Fight fear with a plan.”

She used a travel example. When you travel somewhere new, it can feel scary. So, what do you do? You look at a map and you check the steps. The destination is still unknown, but knowing the path brings peace.

Instead of trying to figure out how to arrive at my destination of being “completely fear-free”, I can focus on my first step.

Often, I’ll set myself a 30-day challenge. Something simple yet deliberate to do each day. Maybe I start each morning with a faith-filled sermon. I know that if I stick to that plan, by the end of 30 days, my heart will be stronger in faith and closer to freedom.

That’s the challenge I want to give you. Don’t just focus on the destination, whether it’s freedom from fear, an addiction, or something else. Focus on your plan.

What step can you take today that will lead you closer to freedom?

Why not make September your month? 30 days. 30 opportunities to take intentional steps toward breakthrough.

Here are some ideas I’ve used in the past:

  • Read a chapter of the Bible each morning
  • Watch a faith-building sermon
  • Declare 10 faith confessions daily
  • Spend time praying in the Spirit
  • Read a Christian living devotional

Instead of obsessing over the destination, focus on the process and trust God that every step is leading you closer to freedom.
